Radiation Safety Training

WSU personnel who work with radioactive materials and/or radiation machines are required to complete the radiation safety courses listed below.

The Radiation Safety Office offers separate courses depending on the type of use (see below).

This requirement applies to prospective authorized users as well as employees or some student groups who plan to work directly with radioactive materials or radiation machines.

**NOTE** To obtain personal dosimetry please complete the Radiation Worker Application. A link to this application is at the bottom of this page.

Refresher training, awareness training, Waste, and gauge training is available below on-line.

Due to accessibility issues, all other training is only offered through the Radiation Safety Office.

Training Required for Type of Use

Annual Refresher:

All radioactive materials, sources, or gauge users must also complete Annual Refresher Training, offered below, between July 1st and June 30th, beginning the year after completing initial training.  This does not apply to Radiation Producing Machine Users.

Radioactive Materials:

New Radioactive materials users must complete modules 1 through 9 and 13 and 14 and 17, and submit a completed radiation worker application, before receiving dosimetry and starting work with radioactive materials.

Radioactive Sources:

New sealed source users must complete modules 1 through 7 and 17, and submit a completed badging application, before receiving dosimetry and starting work with sealed sources.

Radioactive Gauges:

New Soil moisture gauge users must complete modules 1 through 7 and numbers 11 and 17 below, and submit a completed badging application, before receiving dosimetry and starting work with soil moisture gauges.

Radiation Producing Machines:

New Radiation producing machines users must complete modules 1 through 7 and 10 and 17, and submit a completed badging application, before receiving dosimetry and starting work with radiation producing machines.
