Radiation Safety Training

Radiation Safety Training

WSU personnel who work with radioactive materials and/or radiation machines are required to complete radiation safety training. This includes:

  • Prospective Authorized Users
  • WSU Faculty and Staff
  • Graduate and Undergraduate Researchers
  • Visiting Scholars and Researchers
  • Students working with licensed radioactive materials or radiation producing machines

The Radiation Safety Program offers separate courses depending on the type of use (see below).

**NOTE** To obtain personal dosimetry please complete the Radiation Worker Application. A link to this application is at the bottom of this page.

Due to accessibility issues, all other training is only offered through the Radiation Safety Office.

EHSA Web Based Training

All Radiation Safety Training is now offered through EHSA Web Based Training.

EHSA Web Based Training can only be accessed while connected to a WSU Pullman campus IP address or WSU VPN connection. WSU provides Virtual Private Network (VPN) access to departments and individuals who require secure remote connectivity to restricted university systems and data. Instructions to access this service can be found here.

Training Required for Type of Use

Annual Refresher

All radioactive materials, sealed sources, or gauge users must complete Annual Refresher Training, between July 1st and June 30th, beginning the year after completing initial training.  This does not apply to Radiation Producing Machine Users.

Radioactive Materials

  • Radioactive Materials Training (Series RAM)
  • Prenatal Radiation Exposure Training

New Radioactive materials users must complete Radioactive Materials Training and Prenatal Training, submit a completed radiation worker application before receiving dosimetry and starting work with radioactive materials.

Radiation Producing Machines

  • Radiation Producing Machines Training (Series XRAY)
  • Prenatal Radiation Exposure Training

New Radiation producing machines users must complete Radiation Producing Machines Training, Prenatal Training, and submit a completed radiation worker application, before receiving dosimetry and starting work with radiation producing machines.

Radioactive Sources

  • Radioactive Materials Training (Series RAM)
  • Prenatal Radiation Exposure Training

New sealed source users must complete Radioactive Materials Training and Prenatal Training, submit a completed badging application before receiving dosimetry and starting work with sealed sources.

Radioactive Gauges

  • Radioactive Materials Training (Series RAM)
  • Prenatal Radiation Exposure Training
  • Soil Gauge Training

New Soil moisture gauge users must complete Radioactive Materials Training, Prenatal Training, and Soil Gauge Training, submit a completed Radiation Worker Application that requests appropriate badging, before receiving dosimetry and starting work with soil moisture gauges.

4th Year Vet Student Refresher Training

  • Vet Student Refresher Training
